What to ask your Real Estate Agent When Moving

When shopping around for homes, you deserve to get the best. However, it’s not just the type of home itself; the community in which the house is on should also make an impact. So, here are some questions you should ask your realtor when you’re hunting for a new home.

What are some of the best communities for people like me?

This should be considered if you live a certain lifestyle, age, or stage of life or even have certain interests such as art. It’s best to try to live in a community where you can easily fit in. If you’re a young family, then it wouldn’t be ideal for moving somewhere mostly made up of college students.

Is there a lot of crime and violence in the area?

Crime rates vary from city to city, but this can include neighborhoods too. It's important to research the crime rates of an area before deciding if it is a safe place to live. While you should do some research, make sure also to ask your real estate agent.

How close is public transportation or mass transit nearby or available?

If you don’t have a car or want to try to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle, then you’ll have to consider this. Plus, you’ll want to ensure that bus stops are nearby too.

What are some common issues with homes in this area?

Sometimes a real estate agent will know the answer, sometimes not. But some common issues may be:

-Rising water levels due to the recent rain.

-A lack of parking spaces.

-An overabundance of trees and vegetation.

Don’t count on an answer, but it never hurts to ask.

What Do You Look for in a Neighborhood?

Do you want to live near the trendy city? Do you want to be near a golf course? Do you want to live in a rural area? These are important considerations when choosing where to buy your new home. It’s helpful to ask the realtor for recommendations, especially if you’re after something in the middle.

How do I know if a Neighborhood is Safe and Convenient?

The quality of schools, proximity to parks, availability of public transportation, walkability score, crime rate, and other factors determine a neighborhood's safety and convenience. You’ll have to know those things, so ask your realtor. The real estate listings in Mississauga won’t tell you, which is why you need to talk to a realtor.

How do the Schools Rate?

Schools are an important place for children to learn and grow. They spend most of their day at school, so it’s important that they like the environment and feel safe. Parents want to know what the schools are like before enrolling their children in one. They also want to know how good the schools are and if they would be a good fit for their child. The neighborhood or community you plan to move into will impact where your kids will go to school.
